Barasat, January xx 2025 - Narayana Hospital, Barasat, successfully performed a life-saving heart surgery to remove a rare left arterial Myxoma (heart tumour) from a stroke-affected woman. The complex procedure led by Dr Arunansu Dhole, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, overcame significant risks and delivered a positive outcome, restoring the patient’s health and mobility. The woman was admitted with right-sided hemiplegia (paralysis on the right side of her body) caused by an embolic stroke, where tumour-related clots blocked blood flow to the brain. Echocardiography revealed a large tumour, known as a left atrial myxoma, inside her heart. The tumour was 5 cm in size and had caused blood clots, which led to the stroke. After initial treatment, surgery was planned for a later date to allow her condition to stabilize.
